Bronx, NY — On the morning of October 12th, federal officers raided Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar’s home. Andre Easton, Bronx teacher, father, and socialist candidate running for New York's 15th Congressional District, issued the following statement in response:

“Early this morning, Trump's Homeland Security agents raided Rep. Ilhan Omar's home in a blatantly racist, politically motivated attack.

“We've seen this before with Mahmoud Khalil, Mohsen Mahdawi, and countless other activists and immigrant rights leaders targeted by ICE. The Trump administration is weaponizing immigration enforcement to silence its opposition.

“We can't let Trump's fear tactics work. And the Democrats, who helped build ICE and the deportation machine, certainly won't save us.

“Now more than ever, we need independent working-class power leading a mass movement powerful enough to defend our right to free speech, dismantle the deportation machine, and win full, equal, and permanent rights for all immigrants.”
