Washington, D.C. — With the support of 8 Democrats, the House passed a resolution condemning socialism. Andre Easton, Bronx teacher, father, and socialist candidate running for New York's 15th Congressional District, issued the following statement in response:

As Fred Hampton put it, "If you're afraid of socialism, you’re afraid of yourself." 62% of young people now have a favorable view of socialism. That's 32 million people.

CBS News/YouGov poll from August revealed that 58% of Democratic voters hold a positive view of socialism. A Fox News poll from March found that Democrats under 45 are the group most likely to want to move away from capitalism and toward socialism, at 66%. More than half of all Democrats (55%), Black voters (55%), and voters under 30 (53%) say the same: it's time to move away from capitalism and towards socialism. In the face of these statistics, it’s clear that both billionaire-backed parties are afraid of the growing socialist movement in this country.

That movement is unapologetically demanding what the capitalist system is unwilling and unable to deliver: an end to war and genocide, climate policy that can actually reverse the damage, and AI technology under public control. The people are demanding a whole new system — one where we hold political and economic power over our own lives, so we can finally fund housing, healthcare, education, and everything else it takes to live with dignity.

Those eight House Democrats betrayed a movement of millions of working people organizing for political power.
